Time for music Monday—the time of week when I play a lazy father/husband/friend and post music videos for people I care about (mostly my children). It’s lazy because I let the music do the talking and I don’t have to create a whole lot of anything. But, it’s still thoughtful in a 1993 mix-tape sorta way. It let’s you know I’m thinking about you. That’s nice, right?

This one is for my 3 boys (A, E1, and E2). It’s “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys.

And here’s why it’s amazing:

  • There’s a dancing robot.
  • There are three boys singing it.
  • There’s a line about running a marathon.
  • Best costumes ever.
  • Don’t let the beat…drop.

The Beastie Boys were three dudes from New York with geek cred and street cred. That wasn’t easy to find. When I was growing up, they seemed to me like guys I knew in school. Someone who got home, played a little Nintendo, talked about how they should start a band to get girls, and then they did it. They were awkward and obnoxious and alarmingly themselves. They broke the rules about what it meant to be cool and they had a lot of fun doing it.

You should too.
